Go All-Digital

Supporting the global environment we supply all software as digital downloads only. How can you participate?

We all can be part of the solution. Digital downloads are the "green" answer to demanding fewer resources for your computer's needs. What you get is software with an environmental footprint of zero while still staying up-to-date.

Digital downloads are one part of the larger trend in making our lives - both professional and personal - cleaner, more efficient, and better. Continue reading to see what else you can do to improve your green computing.

Limit screen-saver use. A screen saver does not save energy. In fact, more often than not, a screen saver not only will draw power for the monitor, but also will keep the CPU from shutting down. Instead, set your computer to turn off the monitor first, then go into standby mode after a longer period of inactivity.

Disconnect your Virtual Private Network (VPN) when not actively using your corporate network. Being connected may limit your system's ability to enter standby mode.

Many popular computer games and other third party software packages that run in the background will not allow the computer to go to sleep - even if they are paused or the active window is minimized.

Some web sites or pages that have active banners and or animated advertisements will not allow the computer to sleep on its own and must be closed, or the computer put manually into a sleep state.

Enabled power management to place your monitor, hard drives and computer into a low-power "sleep" mode after a period of inactivity.

Monitor/display sleep: Turn off after 15 minutes or less

Turn off hard drives/hard disk sleep: 15 minutes or less

System standby/sleep: After 30 minutes or less

Advanced users may wish to establish multiple power schemes to address different usage models. For example, you can create a power scheme for playing music CDs that shuts off your hard drive and monitor immediately, but never puts your system into standby mode.

To further reduce power consumption, turn off computing and peripheral devices that are not being used or being used for an extended period of time such as overnight.

Plug all your electronics into one surge protector, so you can easily switch them all off when you leave the room or go to sleep. Most power supplies (such as your cell phone charger) continue to draw power and generate heat even when not attached to a device.

VMware Workstation Pro Lets You Run Multiple Operating Systems as Virtual Machines (including Windows VMs) on a Single Windows or Linux PC

VMware Workstation Pro is the industry standard for running multiple operating systems as virtual machines (VMs) on a single Linux or Windows PC. IT professionals, developers and businesses who build, test or demo software for any device, platform or cloud rely on Workstation Pro.

What's new

Updated OS Support We’re continuing to support the latest platforms and OS features and we’ve added support for Windows 10 Creator Updates, Guest-based VBS support, UEFI Secure Boot, Ubuntu 17.04, and Fedora 26.
New Networking Controls Workstation 14 delivers many improved networking functions. You can now simulate latency as well as packet loss using software controls on guest virtual NICs and rename virtual networks for improved organization.
Improved vSphere Support and Integration Quickly test vSphere with improved OVA support that enables you to easily test the vCenter Server Appliance for rapid lab deployment.
And Much More With our latest release, we’re improving on the industry standard. We’ve fixed bugs, added handy features, enabled auto clean-up of VM disk space, updated to a new GTK+ 3 based UI for Linux, added more controls for remote ESXi Hosts and more.

Features

Desktop Virtualization for Windows and Linux VMware Workstation Pro replicates server, desktop and tablet environments in a virtual machine. Run applications on multiple operating systems including Linux, Windows and more at the same time on the same PC without rebooting. Evaluate new operating systems like Windows 10, test software applications, patches and reference architectures in an isolated and safe environment.
Create Powerful Virtual Machines With the ability to allocate multiple processor cores, gigabytes of main memory, and graphics memory to each virtual machine, Workstation Pro maximizes your computer’s resources to run the most demanding applications in a virtual environment. Workstation Pro even lets you run virtual ESXi hosts and vSphere appliances, letting you create an entire Software Defined Data Center right on your desktop.
From the PC to the Cloud Seamlessly access all the virtual machines you need, regardless of where they reside, from the PC to the cloud. Simply drag and drop to move your virtual machines from your PC to the private cloud with VMware vSphere or the public cloud with vCloud Air. By leveraging the hybrid cloud you can quickly migrate and scale your workloads while reducing complexity and maintaining compatibility.
Take Control of Your Virtual Machines Workstation Pro gives technical professionals powerful controls over how to set up and interact with virtual machines. Choose from a wide variety of options for installing, protecting, connecting, sharing and viewing virtual machines to save valuable time. You can even create virtual machines that are encrypted, require a change of password and expire at a predefined date and time. Use the virtual network editor to build up to 20 custom virtual networks for connected multi-tier applications. Leverage the Snapshot feature to preserve the state of a virtual machine so you can return to it at any time.
Share Your Virtual Machines Sharing a virtual machine is the quickest way to share and test applications with your team in a more production like environment. Run VMware Workstation Pro as a server to share a repository of pre-loaded virtual machines in every desired configuration with your teammates, department or organization.
VMware Workstation is Designed For IT professionals to safely test patch deployments, system upgrades and migrations in isolated sandbox environments on a single PC. Systems engineers and other technical sales professionals because it gives them the power to demonstrate an entire virtual network environment—including clients, servers and database virtual machines—all on a single PC. Software developers rely on Workstation Pro integration with Visual Studio, Eclipse and other tool suites to streamline the development and debugging of their applications in multiple operating systems and environments.
